CQI Closing the Loop Bootcamp: Outcomes, Evidence, and Accreditation-Ready Documentation
Professional Development Outline
By Oksana Semenets-Ana
A practical workshop for nurse educators and academic team members focused on using outcomes data consistently, documenting CQI decisions, and producing "audit-ready" evidence that supports accreditation self-study expectations for outcomes assessment and continuous improvement. This module is designed to address common faculty needs around interpreting trends, applying consistent evaluation practices, and clearly documenting actions and results ("closing the loop").
In-person workshop
(can also be delivered live on Teams)
2 Hours
Interactive, hands-on session
Learning Objectives
Identify key CQI and outcomes-evidence expectations that nursing accreditors emphasize (mission alignment, qualified faculty, curriculum quality, resources, and outcomes assessment).
Apply a simple "CQI Close-the-Loop" documentation method (what we saw, what we changed, why we changed it, and how we will evaluate impact) using a shared template.
Produce one completed, accreditation-ready CQI artifact (mini action plan + evidence tracker) based on a realistic outcomes scenario.
Workshop Agenda
Detailed 2-hour session timeline with topics and activities
Welcome and why CQI matters for accreditation
Brief overview of accreditation expectations that emphasize outcomes assessment and continuous improvement, connecting CQI to self-study evidence.
What counts as "outcomes evidence"
Define outcomes data sources (course outcomes, standardized exams, clinical evaluations) and what makes evidence credible and consistent across courses.
Mini-framework: close the loop in 4 steps
Introduce the simple documentation flow: Findings, Decision, Action, Recheck/Impact. Participants receive a one-page template and an example.
Interactive Element: Group work, CQI Case Scenario
Small groups review a brief outcomes snapshot (e.g., a content area dip, inconsistent evaluation evidence). They identify the "problem statement," decide on an action, and choose evidence to track.
Role-play: CQI Conversation with Psychological Safety
Pairs practice a short conversation: raising an outcomes concern and agreeing on a documented action plan without blame. Debrief what language supports fairness and transparency.
Break
10-minute break
Build an audit-ready artifact
Individuals complete a "CQI Mini Action Plan + Evidence Tracker" for their course or committee role (what will be documented and where it will be stored).
Quick share and peer review
Participants exchange artifacts and use a short checklist to confirm clarity (what changed, why, evidence, timeline, evaluation plan).
Wrap-up and next steps
Reinforce how consistent CQI documentation strengthens accreditation self-study and supports continuous improvement.
Conclusion
This workshop addresses a common professional development gap: faculty confidence and consistency in using outcomes data for CQI and documenting decisions in a way that demonstrates improvement over time.
Because nursing accreditors consistently expect programs to show strong curriculum, student support, adequate resources, and, especially, outcomes assessment and continuous improvement, faculty need shared tools and a consistent process to "close the loop" with clear evidence.
By the end of the session, participants will leave with a completed CQI documentation example they can replicate in their own courses or committees, strengthening accreditation readiness and supporting ethical, transparent evaluation practices.
